Most beginners start with a 2.0 or 2.5 strength reed, which is soft enough to produce a sound easily while you build embouchure strength. As your control improves, players typically move up to 2.5 or 3.0 for a fuller tone. Strength also depends on your mouthpiece, so if you're unsure, tell us your setup and we'll recommend a starting point.

They're different rather than strictly better, but synthetic reeds have real advantages in India's climate. Cane reeds warp and soften in humidity and need soaking before each use, while Légère synthetic reeds play straight from the packet, stay consistent in any weather, and last far longer. Many players keep a Légère as a reliable gig reed even if they practise on cane.

A Légère synthetic reed typically lasts several months of regular playing, far longer than a cane reed, which may last only a few weeks. Because they don't absorb moisture, they don't break down the way cane does. That longer life usually makes the higher upfront price cheaper per playing hour.

The Signature is thinner and stiffer, producing a pristine, centred, classical tone with smooth response, popular for concert and classical playing. The American Cut is designed for a warmer, more flexible jazz sound with easy projection. Both play out of the box; the choice is about the tone and genre you want.
